BERMUDA (SEASONAL)

Tifway 419 is the variety we grow at the farm for the Bermuda.

Warm season grasses grow best in tropical to subtropical climates. Bermuda grass is a warm season grass best known for sports applications such as golf courses and athletic fields. Because Bermuda grass is a warm season grass, it will go dormant after the first frost and remain dormant until temperatures rise in the spring (April-October).

Bermuda grass is recognized as the "South's Grass" and performs best in full sun. Bermuda grass has a soft, thick texture making it ideal for heavy traffic areas because of its ability to repair itself. Bermuda grass will repair/spread two ways- from rhizomes under the ground and stolons on top of the ground. This ability to spread means flowerbeds will have to be maintained regularly.

Although Bermuda grass is drought tolerant, in order to have a green, healthy lawn, regular watering and fertilization are recommended. Mowing heights vary from ½" to 2½", but we recommend 1½" for a home lawn.

WHAT WE OFFER

Sod can be purchased in individual pieces. We cut our sod in 16 x 24 inch pieces. Each piece covers 2.6 square feet. Sod thickness is ½-¾ inches. Call the office for pricing.

  • ¼ pallet = 126 square feet = 50 pieces
  • ½ pallet = 252 square feet = 100 pieces
  • ¾ pallet = 378 square feet = 150 pieces
  • 1 pallet = 504 square feet = 196 pieces

SOD PALLETS

In order to get the square footage for the sod area, measure the length and width and multiply them together. Length x width = sq. ft. Then take the total and divide by 504 sq. ft. to find the number of pallets needed.

  • A pallet covers 504 square feet and weighs between 2,000-2,500 lbs., depending on moisture content.
  • A compact pick-up truck will hold between 1/4-1/2 pallet.
  • A 1/2-ton truck will hold between 1/2-3/4 pallet.

A 1-ton truck can haul a full pallet.
